Posted on 10/10/2017

Congratulations to Mr. David White, Automotive Technology instructor at the Parkside High School Department of Career & Technology Education, who has been named one of 10 finalists for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. He now advances to the third and final round.

White was chosen as a finalist from a pool of 693 applications from teachers and teacher teams across the nation for the Harbor Freight competition. He has advanced past the round of 54 semi-finalists.

Harbor Freight will announce the three 1st-place winners on October 26th. These winners will each be awarded $100,000, with $70,000 going to the high school’s skilled trades program and $30,000 to the individual skilled trades teacher or teachers behind the program.

White is already guaranteed to be at least among the seven 2nd-place winners who will each be awarded $30,000, with $20,000 going to the high school program and $10,000 to the teacher or teacher team.

"I am a little shocked, but also very happy for our CTE program here in Wicomico Public Schools to be picked as one of the 10 finalists," said White. “It shows all the hard work of our program, and our outstanding students, and the fact that we will receive, at the minimum, $20,000 dollars for the program, is quite an honor for our students and school. I'd like to thank Harbor Freight."

Parkside High School Principal Kimberly Pinhey believes Mr. White's  recognition is representative of the outstanding teachers at Parkside High School and Career and Technology Education Center.  "We're really proud of Mr. White and the work and committment he shows every day for his students and his Automotive Technology program.”

David White was interviewed by 47 ABC WMDT, and his accomplishments concerning the Harbor Freight Teacher Award will be featured on the channel's 5:30 p.m. newscast on Oct. 10.
